No Substitute For Action

Woman with a thoughtful expression looks out a car window, sitting in the rear passenger seat. She's wearing a white top and necklace. Reflections are visible on the glass.

A friend of mine said that you cannot learn to drive by watching traffic. The only way to learn something new is to move from the passenger seat to the driver’s seat. Facing your fears is like that. The only way to create courage to face your fears is to take action despite your fears. There is no substitute for action.

Stop hesitating. Whatever happens, you can be satisfied knowing that you gave it your all.

When you hesitate to take action toward your goal, you’re in an emotionally unsatisfying place. Your self-doubt holds you back. Meanwhile, your dream won’t go away, because you know that in your heart, it is what you desire for your future. You flip flop between self-limiting beliefs and feeling restless because you haven’t taken action.

When learning and growing are your priorities, you need to act.

Learning and growing naturally come from stepping beyond your comfort zone. When you are open to learning, you’ll more likely take action despite your fears. With each step outside of your comfort zone, your courage and skills will grow.

Courage is cultivated after you face your fears, and not before.

Your fear won’t go away until you act. A leap of faith is required to get past your fear of getting started. You can make the leap a little more comfortable by breaking down your action into small steps. Gradually building up your learning and skills as you set out on something new will cultivate your courage as you face your fears. If you have a dream, just thinking about it means it remains nothing more than a wish. To make it a reality, you need to take action. Will you?
