Do you ever get tired of hearing yourself talk about accomplishing a goal while not taking steps to make it happen? I sure do. And I know that it’s my fear that is causing me to stall. What helps me take action is to make a commitment to myself. When you commit to achieving your goal, you change your outlook from “I wish” to “I will”. This is crucial to realizing your goal. It also helps by playing a little trick on yourself that changes your perspective. You can start to tell yourself:

"I have to achieve my goal because I said I would." - You, after making a commitment to yourself.

When you tell yourself, "I commit to achieving my goal!", you become accountable to yourself. This accountability increases your motivation.

Commitment equals one less excuse for you to hesitate on working toward your goal.

The importance of deciding that you’ll achieve your goal is significant. When you commit to yourself, you’ve simplified your decision-making process. You’ve removed the option to say no. No more waffling! Try formalizing your commitment using one of the templates described in this article.

Fear can hold you back from accomplishing your goals. Do everything you can to boost your motivation. Committing to yourself helps put fear off to the side while you take steps toward your goal. When you decide to make it happen, you switch from dragging your feet to taking steps toward your goal. What will you commit to?
